Re: impact of hurricanes on society

Google Hurricane Ike, then follow any links related to the Houston / Galveston area.
After a few minutes of reading, you'd be amazed to discover that after nearly a year
most of us still haven't recovered.

2009 ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON

Time to think preparedness. I repeat - Time to think preparedness. Having been thru a couple of rather extreme hurricanes in my lifetime, I learn new ways to make my life more comfortable, before, during, and after a hurricane. This past year before Ike came ashore, I decided that I had better buy a...

Re: Tropical Storm Gustav

As of Friday 09/06 evening, utility services south of I-10 in all parishes of south Louisiana greatly improving, however still just slightly under 1 million 'meters' still off, water and sewer sanitation hit and miss, most southern parish presidents still asking residents to limit water usage. What ...

Re: the chances of gustav hitting near port arthur tx.

This is a VERY dangerous storm. An exponential amount worse than we suffered in Hurricane Rita 3 years ago. I know the BM/PA/PNG area very well. Low lying areas SE of Beaumont/Nederland need to keep cautious watch and stay tuned to KLVI 560 AM radio for evacuation. I believe I have a link to a live ...

Re: Tropical Storm Gustav

Great idea. Glad more companies are making sure their people have time
to prepare. Old school days, firms would make their employees wait until
the town was deserted and the cow had jumped on a bus before they
would close the barn door. Musta been that y2k thing.

Re: Data and Info

Excellent idea and I'd love it. I'll create the topic now. Hurricane, Would you like my small accumulation of webcam links and such ? Perhaps we can make a sticky for data links around the Gulf, then find some for the East Coast ? I've found that during a storm, Texas coastal residents request LOTS...

Re: Gulf Coast Web cams

I'll edit this post as we go along building the links to various places. Traffic cams, weather cams, off-shore weather buoy info, etc, and such. Including TV and radio stations, sometimes local news coverage is quicker than some national venues. Most verified as of this posting date. Some more relia...

Re: Tropical Storm Gustav

Totally concur. It's perhaps that I have some time on my hands, waiting for a job bid to come thru after the Labor Day holiday. Seems to be a youthful few over on the ACC forum that have been too enthralled with video games and graphic/font manipulation getting under my skin. I thank the folks that ...

Re: Tropical Storm Fay Web cams

Here's hoping the clean up going well. Thanks for the webcam link, post more or PM them to me. I have a rather large selection of cams from around the Gulf Coast and some links to buoys throughout the Gulf of Mexico. Kinda like collecting bits of string, small pieces still make a small ball. Best, P...

Re: Tropical Storm Gustav?

The alarmists with the fancy graphics are wiping New Orleans from the face of the earth again on a few
of the other weather forums. Glad we're a tad calmer here.

Re: Tropical Storm Edouard

Thru 4:30, about 4 1/4 inches of rain, temp in the very low 80's all day, satellite tv in and out, so we resorted to a couple of John Wayne movies on disc, and rabbit ears for local news. Sprinkles outside currently, wife heading to local Mexican restaurant for supplies. All in all, a very satisfyin...

Re: Tropical Storm Edouard

It's raining, and a little windy. Rain started here just a tad past 6am this morning, I was letting the dog out, and got sprinkled on, the rain, not the dog. A few pics for those interested. http://www.towards2112.com/images/2008_08_05/IMG_2338small.jpg http://www.towards2112.com/images/2008_08_05/I...
