Forecaster William Gray's team at Colorado State University predicted today that 2007 will be a "very active" hurricane season.
1. 74% chance of a major hurricane hitting the United States
2. 17 named storms (Tropical Storms and hurricanes)
3. 9 of the 17 storms will be hurricanes
4. 5 of the 9 will be "intense" hurricanes with winds of 111 miles per hour or more.
The full report is located at Colorado State:
Will the forecasts be as far off as they were in 2005 and 2006? 2006 predictions were far too high. 2005 predictions were far too low.
