Post by tantraman » Sun Jul 13, 2014 10:35 pm

This year I am really trying to enjoy the summer. It seems like every summer I enjoy june and part of July. But once mid july hits Im done with summer and want to go into fall andf Halloween season. I really Enjoy Late August and especially September, Where i am here in Texas the fall feeling going though into November even. It seems like there is a lot of fun I miss out on during the summer, when all I can think about is the fall and Halloween. Do you guys experience this or how do you get over the Halloween urge.

That pretty much sums up my feelings of summer.

I put out a bunch of artificial fall branches this weekend and watched Hocus Pocus.

Well, I am still in summer mode myself. I swim three days a week in the mornings, something I theoretically could do all year round, but I find I don't really want to once the weather starts getting cold. Swimming means summer to me. And we are going on a couple of college visits for my daughter, too. So we have little trips planned that we couldn't do during the school year.

Unfortunately, our school year starts in early August, so it is impossible to plan, say, a beach getaway that month, even though I would very much like to.

Me too. I enjoy each season, but I also start to get the fall bug in mid-late July.

I've been trying to really live each day rather than looking forward and back. It seemed I used to always wish it was a certain time or day rather than just enjoying myself.

Sometimes I'll actually plan a summertime activity to embrace the season. But what has really worked for me lately is to just go with the feeling. Instead of wishing it was fall, if I get in the fall mood I can put on a Halloween movie, or find some stuff online, or take my bow out and practice for the fall season. I don't need to wait, I can enjoy the things of fall now.

While I don't do this all the time, just when it's been a stressful day or fall is on my mind. Life is too short to dwell. So I just light a pumpkin spice or apple pie candle, have some pumpkin coffee and watch the Great Pumpkin. Not only do I enjoy it, but it always seems to take the edge off and give me just enough a taste of the season that I'm satisfied for now. It also is a great little reminder of the things soon to come.

Have a great day.

I'm very much in the same situation.
Trying to enjoy summer for the sake of summer, but the pull of Halloween is just too strong.

Unfortunately for me, this is as much a silly season as any other.

The big problem is because of the heat, our local alcohol abusers and folks with emotional problems get their government checks at the first of the month and then go out and get boozed up. Big Time!

Then they get hot and start taking off their clothes in public places like parks and shopping centers. Then they defecate on themselves and we're left to clean up the mess.

Trust me. You don't know what foul, stink and gross are until you've seen and smelled a 3000lb fat guy, nude and passed out for all the world to see. Just once I'd like to bring in mega-hose water cannons and blast them.

I couldn't even begin to do your job. I already dislike people enough as it is. Probably why I'm one of the people who appreciate what you all do.

After all the bad press our officers have had recently we finally got to see them doing their job well. Look up the video of the woman being escorted out of the Brad Paisley concert, and the video of the civilians stopping the carjacker. The officers did what they are supposed to do, 'protect and serve'. I'm very proud of them. Heck even the civilians handled themselves well in the second one, except for the guy who stomped on the fingers.

BTW: Does it bother you when people video you? These guys didn't seem to mind.

My brother served part of him military career in Germany as a sort of cop. One of his duties was cleaning up after wrecks on the autobahn.
From what he described nobody doing public safety jobs gets paid enough.

Speaking of summer, with our usual coastal climate combined with 3+years of drought fall is once again early this year.
I snapped this on the way home t today.

Yes, it is a cool feeling.

The downside I that when the rest of the county is enjoying a picturesque thanksgiving our trees are bare.

I don't have a problem with cameras in our cars or being videotaped. It's going to happen sooner or later to just about every agency in the country. My only gripe is when the news media only show a portion or as in some cases edit the tape to portray a certain outcome. I've heard with my own two ears people in the media saying their report will help or attack one side or the other. They love to play the race card every chance they get. I can't begin to tell you how often I've read in a paper or saw on tv a totally false claim or statement about a case I had personal knowledge of. That's why I seldom watch any news channel, and if I do watch, I filter out about 90% as garbage.

I will give credit where it is due though. There is a national organization called Cop Watch. They claim their intention is to keep cops honest by videotaping any protest or large gathering that police might overreact and start beating on someone. They wear these orange vests that say Cop-Watch on them and claim to be impartial. But one incident had a local news channel filming one of the Cop Watch people deliberately trying to knock a cop on his motorcycle over, in hopes of getting the officer to lose his temper and start fighting with the protester. It didn't work. The officer fell off his motorcycle and had to be taken the hospital. That bit of bad publicity really hurt their bottom line. It doesn't happen often, but at least that was one time they got it right.

I'm afraid I have to say I share the sentiments with a lot of people here.
Now that my vacation is over and it's actually starting to feel cooler out...well...it already feels like fall...the leaves haven't changed yet but it actually feels a lot cooler here. Maybe it's just me. It feels like summer shouldn't be ending yet...but I think my big hype and excitement has ended. We had a great vacation though and had a lot of fun.
Incidentally...I grabbed a Halloween shirt to wear to work and got a sudden craving for some candy corn...XD
But I still have my birthday to look forward to in a couple days...we celebrated it early though. But I'm still looking forward to it regardless.
We may go to the fair in August...I guess that will be my final "hoorah!" to summer.
I was a little tempted to get this Halloween tree at a yard sale when I was visiting up north...but I didn't want to cart it back home...also a little tempted to bring home this sweet little black cat that my aunt has...and this black cat is special...she was born on Halloween! I kid you not. She's less than a year old. But again, the stress of bringing an animal all the way down here...and the fact that I already have two cats...probably would have been too much. I was tempted to bring home the tabby too. I love cats and all, but I have to be practical and know my limits...I pretend and laugh that I'm a crazy cat lady...but I'm only human after all and two cats are plenty. It wouldn't be fair to the cats I already have anyway.
I feel divided...I want to enjoy the rest of summer...yet the spirit of Halloween I can hear knocking on my door...
