Halloween Rhymes and Songs

Post by Haunted Horseman » Sun Aug 26, 2007 1:00 pm

This topic was being discussed in another thread entitled "what scared you about halloween". I thought it was interesting enough to start a new one. Does anyone remember singing the following tune in Grammar school music:

The Ghost of Tom
"Have you seen the Ghost of Tom?
Long white bones with the fesh all gone
Wouldn't it be chilly with No skin on."

Can't remember the other verses.

Anyone know any others childhood songs?

On this page you can find the complete version of Harry Behn's poem "Hallowe'en"......(which I think was written in the 1940's)

http://www.geocities.com/Paris/LeftBank ... ween3.html

Couldn't find the midi version, that would be very helpful for those of you who might want to hear how the song version goes...still looking for it...

Aww we never sang Halloween songs in school :(

The closest we got to that was singing a hymn about the Autumn Harvest in assembly once  And I don't even remember how it went!

The Ghost of Tom sounds like a great song, though! hehe

Laurie Strode

This one is in honor of the author of this thread:

The Headless Horseman's Haircut

The headless horseman's hair was
getting scruffy 'round the ears.
He hadn't had a decent cut
in over twenty years.

He'd heard about a barber
who was recommended by
another headless horseman,
so he thought him worth a try.

He tied his horse outside the shop
on Second Avenue,
went in and asked the barber
for a shave and a shampoo.

He said, "I'd like my hair cut short,
but leave some length in back.
I'll need a dandruff treatment, too.
I'm fond of wearing black."

The headless horseman thought a bit
before instructing him,
"And if time allows it, sir,
my moustache needs a trim."

He left there feeling confident
at quareter after one.
He turned and told the barber,
"I'll be back here when you're done." :D

hehe I like that poem, Laurie :D

I remembered a limerick from a Halloween book that I used to recite when I was younger. It's amazing how clearly you can remember things like poems and song lyrics, even if you haven't thought about them for years! :o

A ghost stood on a bridge one night,
His lips were all a-quiver,
He gave a cough,
His head fell off
And floated down the river.
