A Halloween Painting

Post by magickbean » Tue Aug 28, 2007 7:47 pm

Hey guys,

I painted this tonight, because I was in the Halloween spirit - I call her Lacrymosa :)

Sorry that some of the details have got lost with the poor photo - if the flash is on, it just bounces off the paint and makes it look super shiny, but if it's off.. well.. it's a bit blurry. :(

It's oil on canvas, and took about 2-3 hours. I haven't painted for almost a year so it was really good to get brush back on canvas again!

Here is a close up of her face:

What do you think? Sorry about the watermarks.. in this day and age it is an unfortuante necessity

Big Anime Eyes O_O

Great name for her! (One of my favorite Mozart songs -- from Amadeus-- too)

... is that watercolour? That's fantastic! I especially like her hair and the detail on the lace is divine. I like her piercing eyes-- they make me wonder what she's looking at.

Very nice, magickbean, you should be proud. I like her pensive expression, was that intentional?

Wow thank you all for your lovely comments!

jadewik: Hehe yeah I like to draw my manga girls with big eyes - eyes are the first thing I look at in a person and I think they can be so beautifully expressive! It's acrylic paint but I like to water it down a little to get a watercolour affect - especially as I discovered, to my horror, that my white paint had gone solid so I couldn't do highlights that way

One Eye'd Jack: Thank you, yes, I wanted her to look sort of sad but cold at the same time, sort of.. haunting..as though she were a ghost of herself :)

spookyboo: It's such a good outlet, isn't it? I normally draw, but sometimes I just get the urge to get the paints out :) ! Do you paint too?

JACKRYAN592 Thank you very much! It will be for sale at some point, I'm thinking of painting a collection of horror/halloween themed manga paintings and exhibiting them somewhere. I would love to sell them online but I think postage and packaging might be an issue as it's canvas and it would be devastating if it got broken in transit. :(

Actually, that's a thought - does anyone have experience with buying/selling paintings via mail order?

Sounds like there's more than one artist in the bunch-- I know people are already doing the candy/decoration trade... but have you ever thought about doing/putting together a Halloween (or other holiday) art trade?

I participated in one once for Valentine's Day. It was pretty fun.. but my art sucked back then.
