Canada and Cult Classics

Post by Corvus Kulde » Wed Sep 30, 2009 3:08 am

Why are so many of the great horror and scifi shows(especially of the 90's) made in Canada. "Forever Knight" "The X-Files" "Outer Limits"on and on. One of my oldest faves a short series called "Monsters" was also,I think, Canadian. Whatever the reason I thank the Canadians for giving us many a cult classic to remember. Not to mention a hell of a lot of recent major horror films. There's something wonderfully demented going on up there.
Oh, your so cool, Brewster!

Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

It's not just horror, it's everything, if you notice. Production costs are less expensive in Canada for some reason. That's why so many TV shows and movies are filmed up there. It's all about saving money.

X-Files eventually moved production to LA after about five years, I think because Duchovny had married Tea Leoni, who had a short-lived TV series herself. She was working in LA, so he wanted to be there, too.

I miss real winter weather. Around here it's hot-cold-wet-dry, but almost no snow. As for beautiful fall foliage...it's a no go. Most of the time the leaves are burned off the trees by August. Go north young man! Toronto seems to be a mecca for horror festivals and the like. Check out ruemorgueradio.com. Great stuff.
