Something I made long ago...

What do you like to decorate with? That bucket of blood?

Something I made long ago...

Post by joossa » Sun Oct 04, 2009 1:04 am

I made this years ago and I put it up indoors every October. The background was made with watercolors and the foreground and figures were cut out from black construction paper.

Tell me what you think....

I like it. You did a great job with the colors.

If it isn't framed you should get one to keep it protected.
All you that doth my grave pass by,
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so you must be,
Prepare for death & follow me.

thats really cool :)
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

Some times those old child projects that you did years ago are the best Halloween decorations around. It's like the tv classic "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown." I can't get enough of that cartoon in October.

i believe that true because it seems that the spirit was just SO alive when you were young!! in the picutre above, there seems to be almost ALL of what makes a childs halloween, HALLOWEEN you know? bats, ghost, jack o lanterns, witches, spiders, those were always the symbols of halloween in my home

Same here, Adrien. We had bats. We had cardboard jack o'lanterns and real jack o'lanterns. We had vampires, and ghosts, and it was truely a festive time for all of us. At school we would do Halloween themed art projects, the farm stand at the corner of 111th and Central Park put out pumpkins for sale, and the whole atmosphere was that of Halloween fun. My earliest childhood memory is when I started Kindergarten, on the way to Keller Elementery (St. Christina's didnt have a Kindergarten in those days, which was the Fall of 1965) I would pass by that farm stand and those huge orange spheres woudl be there, just waiting. Then we would get to school and the teacher would pass out orange construction paper and we would make our own paper jack o'lanterns.

I can go on and on about my old neighborhood and Halloween, but I don't want to take up too much server space. Sufice it to say, that the picture in the opening to this thread reminded me of that first Halloween that I was in school.

Yep. All it took was some orange construction paper and a box of craola crayons to really make the entire month of October a lot of fun. In Kindergarten and all through grammer school we had a theme for every month. October was allways my favorite. But we made turkeys in November, Christmas Trees and Santa Clauses in December, snow flakes in January, hearts in February, Shamrocks in March, Easter Bunnies in April (sometimes in March when Easter came in March) spring flowers in May, and of course by June, it was time for SUMMER VACATION. Besides that, usualy by the end of May or early June, the local candy store would have smoke bombs and little fireworks for sale already, but that's a whole other story.

Back to orange construction paper and Halloween fun.
