Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

Thank you so much for posting!! Those retro decorations are amazing, I remember a lot of those from my Grandmother's house. I especially remember the "jointed skeleton", I feel like almost everyone back then had one of those. Thanks again for posting this, I really appreciate retro stuff, but it makes me so nostalgic :cry: .

Yeah it made me really want to go back to the late 80's when I was a kid. That was the first truly nostalgic Halloween thing I've seen in a while. It really took me back. I bought a jointed skeleton last week. I HAD to have one after reading this article. I want one of those vinyl costumes with the plastic masks now!

I know exactly how you feel. I have several jointed skeletons around the house, not another decoration puts me in the spirit like those do. I really appreciated the simple decorations that they had in the 80s. I feel like some of today's decorations are a little too much. I prefer the cut out paper ghosts, and the jointed skeletons over the gory stuff.

Man, I know I am old when the 80's are refered to as "vintage". I graduated high school in '88. For me, vintage Halloween is the really old stuff. The classic black and orange stuff from the 50's I love that old grinning black cat.

The old Halloween decorations and costumes were best.
I have a few of the jointed skeletons and vampires and Frankenstein monsters, and I have the chains made of black and orange construction paper hanging inside the house.
I remember lots of afternoons on the porch with my sis and brother, drinking apple cider and making those long chains.

I rescued those from jointed figures from Mom's garage. No one wanted to use them!

I have this skeleton in my room at school I call my Festivus decoration. It is a paper jointed 5' wall hanging. It has a Santa hat on, a St. Patrick's Day necklace on, It is holding an Easter bunny in one hand and an American Flag in the other. It is so funny. It started out as a joke but I kept it.

Awesome awesome article! I'll never forget the year when my wee brother went as a Reese's Peanut-Butter cup... One of the vinyl costumes with the plastic mask. I think there must be a picture of it somewhere.........

Wow, a lot of that stuff looks really cool. I was born in '94 so sadly I don't remember much of this.
