That would probably gross me out if I bought another store-made pie... But after roasting my own pumpkins and making my own pies on Wednesday, I know EXACTLY where it comes from. I know where it goes, too. GET IN MA' BELLY!!!!!

That sounds great! I have never thought of even roasting my own pumpkin for pie.
I'll try that!

I forgot I still had three pumpkins in the spare room. Whoever gets here first can have
them. Still in perfect condition even though I bought them before Hallowe'en.

Cut your pumpkin in half through the stem. Clean out the guts, give 'em a rinse, and put the halves cut side down on a buttered sheet pan. Bake in the oven at 350° until a knife slides in easily when you stab it (usually about 45 minutes, depending on the size of the pumpkin). If you're into energy conservation like me, you can also roast the pumpkin seeds at the same time. After the pumpkins are out of the oven, let 'em cool until you can handle them. The skin peels off real easily, and the meat can be pureed in a food processor, or, if you like a coarser pie, mashed through a strainer (a lot more sweat for that one). Store it in the fridge, and it also freezes well in ziplock baggies.

It's as easy as.... well... you know...... :wink:

NeverMore, in that warm weather you have? That's amazing those pumpkins are still good!
Too bad you are so far.

Warm!?! It dropped all they way to 65 degrees today! I was afraid to go outside and face
those blustery conditions.

we had pumpkin pie this thanksgiving ( a first for my family)
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

I pity the fool who'd marry me! :lol: She'd have to have the patience of a Buddhist, the toughness of Mr. T, and the eyesight of Helen Keller. Helen Keller's hearing would probably be a prerequisite as well...... :wink:
