Poltergeist movies

Post by iHaunt » Wed Jul 06, 2011 11:26 pm

Anyone seen all 3 Poltergeist movies before?

Poltergeist (1982)

Poltergeist 2: The Other Side (1986)

Poltergeist 3: The Final Chapter (1988)

Me personally do like both 1 and 2, but 3 is okay. Well that blonde little girl died in 1988, I believe from heart attack or something? :(

I've seen all three of them. The first was the best. The other two did suffer from the law of diminishing returns, but they weren't bad.

I was in Jr. High School when the first one came out and thought, "Oh, its PG, how scary can it be?" Oh, yeah, I was wrong. That movie packed in an impressive amount of scares for its rating level. I also really appreciated that the minute something strange happened the father was ready to move. Finally, somebody in a horror movie who said, "No, really, I think I'll leave." And I already didn't like clowns or dolls when I saw that movie, and I liked them even less afterward. But hey, the kid ripped the thing to pieces while calling for his mom.

The best thing of the second one was the preacher ghost, IMO. He was creepy and very unsettling in the scenes he was in.

The use of mirrored surfaces as gateways was a clever idea and I thought they used it well, but overall, the third movie was just OK.

The little girl, Heather O'Rourke passed away of septic shock while having acute bowel obstruction, according to Wikipedia.

Did you ever watch the TV series Poltergeist The Legacy? It had nothing to do with the film series, outside of a shameful recognition grab. But on it's own, the series wasn't bad.
We're the farmer's scarecrows
We scare away the birds,
We keep the farmer's corn safe
Without any words.
But when Halloween comes
We jump out of the ground
And we scare the boys and girls
When they come walking 'round.

Nope. I've not seen Poltergeist: The Legacy. Is it good?

The part where the guy peels off his own face always freaked me out.

The first and second Poltergeist films were best, especially the first.

Have never seen the TV series.

Poltergeist: The Legacy was about a secret society, the Legacy, that protected mankind from the evil bad things of the night. The organization was world-wide, but the series focused on "house San Fransisco". I didn't think it was a bad series, but like everything else, it had it's problems. Particularly, all supernatural, with a few exceptions, was evil. It's a standard plot point, but I find it annoying. They also had several plots that were centered around the sins of the father being visited on the descendants. I missed the last season because it was moved to SyFy which I didn't get at that time. I believe Chiller is running the re-runs (the show it out of production) right now. I'd recommend giving it a look see it you get a chance.
