Jack, I notice you're new to this board - take some time to look at the different threads from the past. Many come with links to websites, great pictures, ideas, etc. You can't go wrong if you select a theme for your party. You can work the food, decor, etc. around whatever theme you choose. Good luck with your party planning and keep visiting us for more ideas. LP

Hooch - I buy just about every halloween magazine that comes out in september. I am a big fan of family circle etc. To be honest I am not sure I have really paid much attention to the martha stewart mag.

Those magazines give such neat ideas for decoration - and usually really cheap to make

Check out the website, under holidays it's the first tab. You get the idea that Ol' Martha is big time into Halloween. I plan on utilizing the shadow ideas shown under the "Black Magic" section.

Oh by the way, I was born in Louisville. Small world. :)

Have you seen the MS idea about the bat cave? We (well, I...) cut out about a hundred construction paper bats of all sizes and shapes and plastered the walls with them, cut out stalagtite-like shapes and put them all around the top by the ceiling...it looked awesome! (we were getting ready to paint the LR, so it didn't matter if we srewed up the paint with the tape :D ) Unfortunately, I have no digital photos to post on here, only took film camera pics. Oh well.

My theme for 2007 is going to be a Witch Coven. I started planning it right after Halloween last year. I made a list of props that I wanted to make/buy. Then I write my ideas down how I want to set everything up.

I have so many ideas, I hope I can get it all done...LOL

I did my own bat cave last year! It was so neat looking. But I taped all the bats by string to the ceiling and when i went to tear them off the paint came off too. OOOOOPS - so be careful if you try that one

I've got 5 themes in my mind, but I don't know which one to choose:
1. The nightmare beofre christmas (that wouldn't be too hard, as the christmas stuff is always out by september  )
2. Corpse bride
3. Harry Potter
4. Zombies/land of the dead
5. The Ring

Personally, I like zombies/the dead because that gives you and your guests such a wide range to be creative with.

I was thinking of having a small, sit-down dinner for maybe 8 or so of my good friends (costumes required, of course). It would start around sunset. I have a few themes in mind for decor:

1. A Victorian halloween
2. Salem Witch Trials-esque (I think this one would be very fun)
3. Dracula's castle

I'd love anyone's opinion and ideas :D

No real theme going on this year, but there is a slight nod to the Pirate theme. Mostly skeletons, Grim Reaper - fog machine with the skull head, Vampire, and other spooky things, kinda blended together. Just the stuff I had on hand. Bound to look great though. I have three 4ft. 2 tube Flourecent fixtures hanging on the ceiling. Lots of UV being thrown around.

Adult Party - Old Hollywood Horror. Dracula, Wolfman, Frankenstein, Creature from the Black Lagoon, etc.

Party for the young ones -- The Nightmare Before Christmas. (It was their choice. Gotta love 'em.)

My costume won't fit into either category but I am going to modify it for the adult party and get a second one together for the kid's party.
