I don't care for that movie at all. I am more excited for this one though. One of the best movies period.

I'm inclined to agree, Bogeyman. I loved that movie as a kid and started my enjoyment of A&C. I had the great pleasure of introducing my friends then 12 year old daughter to "Who's on First" awhile ago and it was great.

In the vein of older movies, I also really loved "The Raven" with Vincent Price, Boris Karloff and Peter Lorey. I showed that one at a horror movie marathon I had once and it was a great success.
We're the farmer's scarecrows
We scare away the birds,
We keep the farmer's corn safe
Without any words.
But when Halloween comes
We jump out of the ground
And we scare the boys and girls
When they come walking 'round.

Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, Peter Lorre, Christopher Lee and Boris Karloff are some of the best actors ever. Price often hams it up but is so enjoyable to watch. Cushing always gives a great performance even if the movie is pure <deleted>. Lorre usually gives his all to his role as well. Karloff always looks like he is having fun. Same with Lee.

If you really want to see a great performance by Peter Lorre check out Mad Love.(1935)

I find myself drifting towards the older horror movies over the recent offerings. I have been purchasing the entire series of the Hammer Studios Dracula films starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. Also the Hammer Frankenstein series starring Peter Cushing.

I agree, some of the older ones have it all over the newer offerings. Bela Lugosi practically defined the vampire genre for decades with is portrayal of Dracula and the original Frankenstein is among my favorite movies. Karloff brings an amazing amount of sympathy to the creature.

And I simply adore Vincent Price. He had one of those voices I could just listen to. And yeah, he could be a little hammy, but it was great to watch. I also really liked The Pit and the Pendulum, The Fly, and House of Wax. I've seen bits of the Witchfinder General and want to hunt down the full thing. From what I've seen of Witchfinder, he's pretty low-key. I even used to watch the 13 Ghosts of Scobby Doo because he played a character in it. The show was complete dreck, but I continued watching it for Vincent Price.

But my favorite is still The Raven. Part of the reason is it concerned itself with magicians, which I think is a completely underused trope of the horror/fantasy genre.

And am I the only person who sees a certain similarity between the acting styles of Peter Lorre and Christopher Walken, or at least character choices?

Mad Love is on Turner Classic Movies tonight at 11:30 pm EST. It is a great movie with Peter Lorre giving a stellar performance.

I LOVE Hocus Pocus, Z!

Wonder if there will be any cool special features on the Blu-Ray? I'm gonna get it either way. My niece also loves it so this will just give us another reason to watch it together.

Boogeyman, I went out and found this just for you, but I think everyone will get a laugh out of it. :) I'll warn you, it takes a minute to really get to the song, but it's worth it. The singer touches on some of his lesser known movies, too.

Hocus Pocus is a great favorite at our house, but we don't own a Blu-Ray player and probably won't in the foreseeable future, so it's still DVD for us.

ScarecrowJack, I saw Vincent Price in person once. He came to Vanderbilt when my husband & I were students there, and we saw his one-man show. He was portraying Oscar Wilde. That performance had nothing to do with his horror-movie persona, but he was terrific. Very talented guy.

Yes, it was very memorable. I'll always be glad I saw him in person.
