Multi Participation Story - Rumors of VanRechtien Asylum

Post by Nostalgiascape » Mon Sep 10, 2012 7:56 pm

This gives us two to work on and writers can alternate between both threads.
(Premise of the story is the VanRechtien Asylum (fictional) exists at the end of a 7 mile gravel road deep in the wooded hills of Missouri. So we'll say that the nearest town is the town of Oaks Valley (also fictional). The Asylum has a reputation among the upper class as being an eficient and well run facility for the mentally insane. But others say different, There are rumors, and questions. Like why is VanRechtien Asylum located seven miles deep into a vast hill y wilderness? But the politicians, and the upper echelon never seem to have any suspicions. Consider also that Missouri his many rivers, creeks and streams.)

Thats the basic premise. I'll begin.
-----

Calvin Harmon was the model of an over achieving high school athlete with sharp looks and a sore attitude towards those whom he believed were smarter than him. He was popular and his family was well off so it was certainly a strange scene for most teens when they saw him sitting at Stacks Burgers talking nervously to the President of the Oaks Valley High School chess team, Howard Hamlin. Calvin wasn't a bad person. He had a good heart. But between the strict expectations of his parents and the pressure of being a teenager in highschool, Calvin gave into the rank and file society of high school. He was burdened by the idea that his parents never gave him any credit for being smart.

"Okay Howard, look...no offense but i'm kinda losing rep points being seen here with you over a couple of habanero burgers. But I've seriously been thinking about what you had said at the next table during lunch at school last week." Calvin said in a serious tone, oblivious that he may have even insulted Howard.

"Um..heh, no offense taken. So what do you think? I mean the pieces all fit. There is perfect reason for suspicion as to why Mrs Hill was suddenly committed when she has been acting perfectly fine every day that we've seen her." Howard replied.

Calvin took a bite out of his burger. His face was red and a small sweat broke out but he wouldnt show the slightest expression of pain.

"Want some hot sauce?" Howard asked with a giggle.
"Funny, while you're at it lets toss some gasoline on this and light it up, there's no way it can get any hotter" Calvin replied, enjoying the break in humor considering his stress over his Aunt and Teacher Loretta Hill who had been committed to the rumor riddled VanRechtien Asylum.

"Hey, whats the deal? You two complainin about the food? I never heard you complain before." said Reggie Stacks, a middle aged single man and owner of Stacks Burgers. Stacks was single, one of few African Americans in town, so he felt lonely and he put his life into his business. The community loved Reggie Stacks and his food.

"No way Reggie, you know we love your burgers. I just think maybe Calvin shouldn't have ordered the Habanero burger." Howard replied.

"Alright then, you had me thinking I was messin up or somethin, don't chall youngins do me like that now." Reggie said with a smile, and then returned to cooking behind the server window.

At the very same time that Calvin and Howard were discussing Calvins Aunt Hill at Stacks Burgers, Nine miles away a desperate, bloody and filthy man was running towards the security fence that surrounded VanRechtien Asylum. Alarm sirens were sounding off as the escapee desperately climbed up the gate only to cut his hands horribly on the razor wire that laced the top of the barred fence. Then man screamed in pain but adrenaline kept him climbing over the fence and falling to the ground on the other side.

Three staff workers dressed in white, one with a bloody rubber apron on each got on ATV's and ordered the tower guard to open the gate. As well as men on Bombardier ATV's four large hounds were released.

"Dear Lord, I have to find a creek and follow it ot a river! I need to cut the dogs off from my scent!! And I need to lose the trail my blood is leaving for the bastards to track with. The men are on ATV's...oh hell I have to try. People have to know!!" The desperate man spoke to himself as he ran surprisingly swift and efficiently through the thick, as if he was accustom to running and excercising as a part of his everyday routine, before ending up in the Asylum.

The mans name was Chaplin Garms. But because he hated that his parents named him Chaplin, he preffered to be called Chappy. As Chappy ran hard, and occasionally changed directions to throw his hunters off he could just hear those dogs snarling. (I can make it to places the ATV's cant well enough. But those damned Hounds of hell. I need to find a creek or a River and submerge as I float), Chappy thought to himself.

Chappy played in those woods since he was a child so he knew tham like the back of his hands. He remembered a specific spot where he and his friends use to go wading, and it was deep enough for him to submerge himself, and the current was strong enough to carry him far away from those horible beasts. Then, he remembered the thumb drive in his pocket. He realized that if he got it wet, it would short out and wold not work, and that thumb drive containied all the proof of the horible attrocities going on at the VanRechtien Asylum. Photos of disectiosn being performed onliving people. Before photos of healthy patients that were taken on the day they were comitted, and progress photos as they were inoculated with various deseases, and as they sickened and finaly died. Photos taken in the VanRechtien Asylum morgue, where body parts, and some whole bodies were fed to those horible hounds from hell. He knew that if anything happened to that thumb drive, there was no way anyone would ever believe him. If he didn't jump in that creek, however, he would be those hound's next dinner. Then he remembered an old abandoned farm house, another place where he and his friends would go on a "lark" once ina while. He knew of a small alcove in the master bedroom of that house, and there was an old 19th century desk where he could hide that thumb drive.

He made his way to that old house to hide the thumb drive. His heart was racing, and all he could think about were those hounds and what would happen to him if he were caught. The cuts on his hand were starting to sting, and were bleeding perfusely. He had to stop the bleading so he tore a piece of cloth from his shirt to tie off the wound so it wouldn't bleed as badly. When he arrived at the abandoned farm house, he quickly ran in the opened door, ran up the stairs to the master bedroom, and placed the thumb drive in that old desk as planned. As he turned to leave, he could hear the low, thoaty growl of a hound, and as he turned, he saw the animal. Teeth bared and growling, he dared not move. He heard the engine of an ATV pull up, and then one of the white clad orderlies walked in. "Where's the thumb drive" he demanded. In a vain attempt to lie Chappy andwered "What thumb drive???" The orderly got inpatent. "Don't play games with me. You know exactly what thumb drive. The one you stole from Dr. Darthwood's computer. Hand it over!" Chappy answered "I don't have it. Search me." "Okay, I will" answred the orderly. The orderly pulled out his batan. "Assume the porition" he demanded. He then started to pat Chappy down. He went through all his pockets, then he turned Chappy around and jaabbed him in the abdoman with the batton. "Where's the thumb drive? He hissed. Chappy knew that he was going to be beaten to a bloody pulp, but he also knew that as soon as that orderly found that thumb drive, he was as good as dead, so he continued to deny.

IF you like the way I write, try out "Brianwood Manor" out for size. I hope to bang out Chap 6 tomorrow or over the weekend.
