Halloween tunes

Post by jekyllandhyde » Sun Sep 03, 2006 12:38 am

Hello! New Halloween junkie on board

This weekend I'm working on some of the details for this year's Halloween party. We are throwing a witch's ball and I plan to play spooky tunes all night long. I've got a fairly good list going and have covered all the obvious but I need more. I plan to play Halloween related music (Nox Arcana, Monster Mash, etc) but also things like Billy Squire's In the Dark and Three Days Grace The Animal I've Become. Anything you can throw at me would be appreciated as I have a lot of time to fill.
It was already one in the morning; the rain pattered dismally against the panes, and my candle was nearly burnt out, when, by the glimmer of the half-extinguished light, I saw the dull yellow eye of the creature open . . .

Excellent song. You know I have loved that song for a long time. I read Stephen King books and when I am refering to the book "The Stand" I think of this song and how the world could be pretty much wiped out .... like in the book.... I find it a very lonely creep yet deep sinking song...for me anyway. Oh also I seen a SNL show (I am also a big fan of that show) and anyway it was one when Christopher Walkens was the guest star and they were doing a funny skit with the regulars of the show being Blue Oyster Cult and Christopher Walkens being the band manger, was calling for more Cow bell....It was hilarious anyway. Anybody see it?

Very nice selection of songs! Always interesting to see where tastes overlap...some of yours couldn't MAKE my tape based on hard experience..THRILLER, for instance just wasn't gonna be on after the trial, for obvious reasons..despite Vincent Price..DON'T FEAR THE REAPER should have been, but it didn't time out, and there were a couple of songs that I couldn't make fit...like one not on your list..DEVIL WENT DOWN TO GEORIGA by Charlie Daniels..go ahead, TRY and fit that sucker into any context you can think of. I gave up...
By the way, take it from you Uncle Tor...the name of the artist is Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs. These guys used to wear turbans and peformed that masterpiece of 20th century art, Wholly Bully.

Oh, think nothing of your mistake. It was still a great selection. It was a lot of work and there are great songs there. And besides, what I was REALLY after was for you to get interested enough to actually dial up some Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs. Everyone should hear the classics once before they die..

Well, since you brought it up, the version that I have on my set is actually called "Little Red Riding Hood Goes to Bald Mountain" and is credited to Sam Sham and Moussorgsky. It's pretty cool. I think I forgot to mention, too, that there are tons of sound effects and screams and other spooky stuff interspersed with all the music. I am so glad you guys appreciate this, and I'm glad I could share it with you.

.

So, are you a film score geek or just an old movie buff? (and I say both of those with all the affection in the world, some of my favorite people are both of those things!)

geekmidwinter...I am both a film score geek AND an old movie buff. Movies are my other favorite pastime. We have two big parties a year, Halloween and Oscar night. We've even had Hollywood themed Halloween parties (you know, come as your favorite character). And Bernard Hermann is one of my favorite composers...the score from Vertigo is one of my all-time favorites, it is so beautiful and haunting.

Another for Three Days Grace is "Scared".

And pretty much any Rob Zombie song.
