Dangerous Schools

Post by deadbride » Thu Mar 22, 2007 1:45 pm

I know this isn't haunt related but I didn't have anywhere else to put this or anyone else to share this with. I am upset. I live in Augusta, Georgia. I live on the southside, which isn't too bad, a fairly nice section of town. The school my oldest two children attend is not one of the best schools but it tries, I'll give it that. It's a high school with some potential. Don't get me wrong I like the school but it needs help. My son was home because he was suspended (of course!) Well my daughter came home from school yesterday telling me about a student that had brought a loaded gun to school. He was arrested and charged of course, but still I don't know what to make of this. I used to live in Orlando, where crime was worse and we had a lot worse schools and yet here I am in a more country like setting for my children and someone brings a loaded weapon to school. And another child says something to the effect that it was going to be another columbine. I'm in tears trying to figure out what to do. My 17 yr old son didn't want to go back to school today, my 18 yr old daughter says she's going because she won't give up her education. But I'm torn. These lunatics can get their hands on guns quicker than I can and I'm an adult. What gives? Sorry for the rant. I just needed to write all this down. Please forgive me. I go out of my way to bring joy to these children during the Halloween holiday and then you have fools like this. And you wonder why I don't know what to do when they won't listen when I say only 2 or 3 at a time going through my haunt. I fear for my life. I put my heart into this event and these kids can destroy it. They don't care. I fear for my children going to that school now even more but they have to go get an education. What else can I do?

Buy syringes loaded with HIV virus that your kids can jam in the perpetrators neck!! LOL ....Better yet, conjure up a spirit on your oiji board, and set it loose on all the low lifes. I blame the whole so called "hip hop culture", all they seem interested in is lousy music, gangsta attitudes, no respect for anything, and sponging off their parents. Try to steer your kids into different crowds of kids, or threaten to shave their hair off while their sleeping, ala "Uncle Buck"! He really knew how to handle these derelicts today!

Same thing happened to me when I was in high school more than 15 years ago... lots of kids always bring guns, knives, drugs, and everything else... At this time, I'm so glad that all schools now have some police officers watching the schools and the properties instead of the school securities.

BTW, my grandpa once told me he did attending his old-time high school and there was no drugs, no fightings, no weapons, anything at all... How lucky he was!!

Anyways, DeadBride, I am going to spend some time in Florida with my finacee... Not sure which way she wants to go... Is Orlando the dangerous city or not? And also, what about Miami? I overheard that Miami is the most dangerous city, and also, the highest crime rates over there? Is that truth?

Orlando isn't so bad, Miami I'd stay away from. I never ventured there. My husband even went armed when his company sent him down there. I know someone will probably post something completely opposite but that was what his experience was. There was a shooting in the same hotel he was in while he was there for the job. I worried the whole time he was gone. I was used to Orlando. Lived there 20 yrs. Just moved 2 yrs ago. Guess I haven't made much of an adjustment yet. Anyway. If you are staying out near the attractions (Disney, Universal) big hotels, that sort, you're ok. There is a section called Pine Hills out toward the west of Orlando. Stay away from that side of Orlando. Not all of west Orlando, just that section. There are some gorgeous golf courses. Lots of lakes. Watch for alligators. LOL Downtown is real pretty. The streets downtown are confusing if they are still working on them so be careful. They have a ghost tour downtown. http://www.hauntedorlando.com/ You might check it out. They have the only permanant Titanic exhibition. http://www.titanicshipofdreams.com/ They give you a name when you go in and when you are done you check to see if you were a survivor or not. My mom never survived! LOL Really all in all Orlando isn't so bad if you stay in the big attraction areas. Definitely shop at a Wal-Mart if you can find the one closest. They do jack the prices up a lot down around the attractions. Hope all this helps. Thanks.
I may grow older, but I refuse to grow up.

Believe it or don't, your kids are probably better off then when I went to high school in the '70's..
When I was going, I was in a Bible belt community. Solidly Christian. This meant that EVERYONE was up for EVERYTHING sexually. It was like going to school in the French Riviera. The only reason I never did anything gay was because I didn't WANT it..EVERYBODY knew who was gay. You could go into the movies that were rated adult at 16 and nobody stopped you. Want a bottle of tequila and a cigar with that porno, son?
The same atmosphere went along with drugs. One of my buddies had a sister who did smack. She would pass out in history. They would haul her down to the nurse, who would ask if she was 'preggers' and that was IT. She DIED one day in her car shooting up. The body SAT THERE all afternoon. No cops. No guards. Nothing. Nobody NOTICED until it was time to go home..she wasn't MOVING..I would LIKE to THINK she would be spotted quicker at your kids school.
We never had a Columbine, but the potential was there. Only blind luck stopped it. One guy ripped open my gym bag, just because. I reported it. The teacher just told me to sew it up myself. He was a football hero. I was just THE WEIRD KID. I mean, who ever HEARD of PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE? Who ya gonna call? Most of the time, I got off LIGHT. They set fire and killed a kids dog one day...just because...and his girl friend the home coming queen, would just laugh.
Now, it seems that kids and to a lesser extent the schools are gettting more supportive of the outsider. There are actually bullying laws being enforced. Now, not too many chicks would DIG it if her boyfriend set fire to an innocent animal. And if a kid starts to talk to himself and twitch and get that LOOK, someone just MIGHT ask if he has problems and try and HELP him...a lot more work has to be done... but take a look at the HATS the kids were wearing to school this fall and winter. The geekoid things with the ear flaps. The ones that were KNITTED for Godsakes..those would have cost me my LIFE back in high school.
You love your kids. They love you. You bust your chops to do neat stuff like Halloween for them. It will work out. the love is there. They'll get good jobs, a home and bring over the grand kids and you'll spoil the little pukes senseless, and the kids will complain you were NEVER that slack with them..it'll come out fine..
the geek with the gun? Well, we had this one guy in high school who thought it was NEAT to rig his lights to turn off and on, individually, to confuse the cops. One night, he drove through a field to lose them. Turned off both lights. No one, of course, ever TOLD him Farmer Brown had that old tree stump in the middle of the field..boom.
Did I mention his brother went to jail for setting fire to a crane??
yeah.
Bet THEIR Mom didn't do anything for Halloween...
oh yeah...the football hero married the home coming queen. They live in a trailer. She sold Mary Kay. He tried Am-Way. Is about 250 pounds. They never celebrated Halloween and always thought I was nuts. They are very miserable, boring people now, by all accounts. Deeply unhappy.
Me? I still watch PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE.
Son helps me with Halloween. On a good year, my dates will dress up like Elvira.
Future events such as these will effect you in the future.

DeadBride,

Please tell me before I go there to Florida for getaway vacation. Be sure to name the cities/towns for me to go there safety, also name some of cities for me to stay away if they are the highest crime rates.

I wish to go there in Jacksonville, is it ok?

Also, Tamarac? And Tampa? Key West?

Tampa is pretty good, Jacksonville is good, St. Augustine is nice, Key West is nice, but remember that it is a high gay community (no offense intended toward that) that is just the way it is. I'm not sure about Tamarac. All those cities are pretty safe, of course each one will have its rough section. The Orlando area is setup different. Orlando is in the center and there are a lot of surrounding cities. You can cross through several and not even know it. Hope some of this helps. Send me a private message if you want. :)

Great! I don't care about the gay community because I love to be friends with them! So, is that all only Miami is the dangerous city, right? I overheard that some Cubans came over there this city from running away from Cuba... Isn't that correct? Why can't the police clean up the city of Miami??

deadbride, I'm so sorry that happened to your family! What a worry it is for us all to let our children go out in this crazy world, never knowing what might happen. All you can do is love them, teach them right from wrong, and hope and pray for the best. I would be just frantic if something like that happened at my daughter's school. Let us know how it turns out...we'll be thinking of you all, and checking back with you. Blessings to you and the kids.

Hauntmaster- Police should have started from the begining but that didn't happen. So gradually they tookover. No big deal. I would just stay away from Miami. Anywhere else should be ok.

The gay community is great, very friendly. Some of the nicest people you will ever meet.

MHooch-3 more kids were arrested Friday for weapons in school. What is this world coming to. I'm glad they are doing searches but you'd think they would put the metal detectors to work for them. The principle went on tv and said that the metal detectors really weren't necessary. I felt like slapping him. Fence off the school, patrol the fence, make one single entrance, use the metal detectors, make everyone go through them. Problem solved. Sounds bad but it would work. I give up somedays. Thanks for the encouragement. :)

Not too bad Hooch. No more weapons found for 2 days. Good thing. Guess the kids got smart for a few days. I'd feel better if they'd let them carry their cell phones but they have a no cell policy. They catch them they take them for a year. Even the parents can't retreive them. Which sucks cause then you're paying for a phone for a year and can't use it. Thanks for thinking of us. I appreciate it. Hopefully everything has calmed down for a long while.

Oh Just to brag a little I'm a Great Aunt. My brother called me at 3am the other morning and my niece had her baby. 7lbs 8ozs at 1:13am CDT 3/25/07 Marilynn Rae. She's cute.

here's a pic of my brother and sister in law and the baby

Do you think my brother is a proud grandpa? Look at the look on his face?!

deadbride, I'm very sorry to hear what happened to your kids at school. We don't have a gun problem here at schools "yet" but don't get me wrong, there are still many serious problems, such as the huge "crystal meth" problem. And I don't mean to say we don't have a gun problem here, cause we have had a huge gun problem in the last 8 years or so, but its been away from schools. But what a lot of people I know are doing because of the other violence related issues and such is many people are choosing to pull their kids from school and home school, now I realize this isn't an option for many people, but I'm just saying this is what some are doing here. And a lot of parents also have cells for their kids with limited use policies so they can't run up huge bills and such. Don't know if any of this helps at all. Congrats on the new arrival to your family :) Oh, and most schools in town here have an RCMP school liasion that attends the school for most of the day, and during times of trouble, or signs of trouble they place undercover RCMP members in the schools.
