Howdy folks!

Back again this year for the 10th Annual Hell-O-Ween Film Festival!

It's our 10th time and we are running the 10 winners from last year's ballot as well as some new entries. Here's the schedule:

The shaky cam is a problem but the scenes in the house are very good. I wouldn't call the film scary and I think the payoff is too long in coming, but overall this felt like an event, part of the cultural zeitgeist that is lacking when it is viewed on DVD.

All vampires should be sexy.

A hideous, monstrous vampire is just another night beastie with a boatload of vulnerbilities but a sexy vampire you almost hate to destroy because of the seduction factor.

Not really sure about how original it is (although I did enjoy the scenes in the house quite a bit) considering that Cannibal Holocaust did almost the same thing.

Halloween is my favorite because it appeals to all the little dark corners of my imagination.

I actually celebrate all these Holidays but Easter is probably the one I do the least for just preparing a big meal and dyeing a dozen eggs or so.

She is strange and unusual. I always thought it was Edward Scissorhands, another Tim BUrton film that made her marketable.

Danny Elfman who has performed scoring chores on most of Tim Burtons, film offers a very nice mix of frenetic paced music that is from his early Dark/Bernard Herrmann period ...

They didn't have PG-13 yet. That rating was invented to deal with the fallout from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom which some people that was too intense for young kids.

The only choice the MPAA had was R or PG. AS blinkered as they are even they couldn't see Poltergeist as an R so PG it was

Yeah, this is a great film! John Houseman is wicked cool narrating the ghost story at the start. Very well done. Janet Leigh is excellent and the relationship with her assistant is great. Good cast and well acted.

You might not have time to do a party but one of your buds is bound to. Try to conjole one of them into throwing a shindig. Heck, one of them might be planning to already.

I never really saw the charm of these films even though I do like Bruce Campbell.

The Birds is one of Hitchcock's best. He relies almost completely on visuals and dialogue to carry the tale.

Hitchcock had been using Bernard Herrmann for underscore but didn't in the case. He used electronics (The Trautonium) to create the bird squawks and sounds.

This is one of my favorites, mainly because of the non supernatural trappings that make this, while not likely, at least possible.

Stephen King's story is pretty brilliant. He takes something wholesome like a dog and awakens all those fears we have of being attacked by a wild dog real.
