Re: White lights or colored?
My older brother has an artificial Christmas tree with all white lights on it. It looks fake, overly comercialized and completely UNTRADITIONAL. I prefer the old style TRADITIONAL multi colored lights, on a real tree. He also has a gas log in his fire place. One touch of a remote control and POOF! Instand fire int he fire place. FAKE! FAKE! FAKE! I'll take my 100 year old house, my REAL fireplace and my REAL Christmas tree over that ANY DAY.

Re: White lights or colored?
Just stacked a cord of firewood yesterday. There is nothing like a traditional, blazing log fire. But wee brither has an electrical "fireplace" at his apartment.... You know, the heater that has the fake fire-like light display? Well, yeah, it would never replace a real fire, but for his apartment, where a real fire isn't an option, it adds warmth and ambiance.
I like tradition okay, but what I like even better is starting new traditions.

I love a real fireplace!
I am so spoiled, the next place has to have one. Or at least a place for a fire out back.

when we lived in Salt Lake City we used our fireplace a lot, since moving to Texas we have never used it. I like an old fashioned real log fire but my mom cant stand the smell so they always had a gas fireplace.....blue flames and cement logs....

Re: White lights or colored?
I have two gas-log fireplaces in my home. The rooms they're in are on the other side of each other, so the one fireplace opens to the other. My first house had two fireplaces, one in the parlor, which was non-functioning --at one time it was woodburning, but then became a fire hazard so it was fixed so you couldn't use it. The second one was in the formal living and was a woodburning one, too. They were both beautiful. I grew up in a housing project in Staten Island, NY, and my parents bought one of those Mr. Christmas cardboard "red brick" fireplaces for our living room. My sister and I loved that thing! And, of course, the "Yule Log" was burning away on TV!

LOL! My oldest brother lived in Scottsdale AZ. and they would light the fireplace on Christmas morning and by 9AM would have all of the doors and windows open.Spookymufu wrote:when we lived in Salt Lake City we used our fireplace a lot, since moving to Texas we have never used it. Not an issue since they moved to Colorado.

Well, it'd be kinda like having an outdoor pool in Anchorage, Alaska.
From where, by the way, I hear you can see Russia.

Must be nice not to have to use heat, NeverMore. But I love the change of seasons here.
I just hate it around Jan. and Feb.
