Halloween: A Final Destination or a Gateway?

Post by TheHallow1 » Sat Nov 06, 2010 6:10 pm

As Fall begins and eventually leads into the month of October, excitement builds up and gains momentum like a snowball rolling downhill, all leading up to and ending with the celebration of Halloween. Yet, Halloween itself also seems to be the beginning of the Season of Death. As the temperature continues to drop, everything dies and eventually, it snows, and our transition into cold, icy, death is complete and our days become a constant struggle to survive. At least that's how it was back in the old days. So is Halloween a final celebration of death? Or is it a preparation we use to usher in and welcome the days of darkness to come?

It's neither. It's an excuse to hang skulls and severed limbs everywhere, and eat candy until we can't move.

Halloween is both. It's a time we recognise and remember our dead loved ones, and it's a fall celebration. It begins Fall in ernest, and it celebrates the end of life.
