Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

Noshing is eating.

I've never had Haggis, but the pictures I've seen of it, I just don't know. hehe

Do you mean the haggis?

It looked like something that I'd have to talk over with myself before eating it.
But it's huge in Scotland.

there are so many foods I often wonder how they came about to be eaten and liked....those coffee beans that are found in wild cat stool......who decided those needed to be eaten, and yet they are the most expensive coffee beans in the world.......Hagis is another one of them.....who eats that?? and how did they come about making it? Who looks at all the nasty left overs of road kill and decides to put it all in the animals stomach and boil it and eat it......bleh!

Oh no! Haggis is one of the loveliest things on earth! In fact, its existence almost makes me believe in heaven! Though haggis is native to Scotland, nearly every country and every culture has had some variation of it. Originally, it was a dish of the lower class, because it is made up of things commonly discarded by the wealthy, much to their loss!

Haggis is the heart, liver, and lungs of a sheep, boiled and then chopped up with suet and mixed with toasted oats, onions, salt, pepper, and spices, then stuffed into a cleaned sheep's stomach, tied off, and boiled for a few more hours. It is served with neeps (mashed turnips with butter and a hint of ginger) and tatties (smashed potatoes), and of course a dram of whisky. The flavor of haggis is indescribably good, sort of like scrapple, but spicier and a bit less smooth, with a far better taste. It is astoundingly delicious, but hard to get in America, because it can not be imported (FDA regulations regarding sheep offal dating back to an outbreak of Mad Cow disease decades ago).

Haggis is the butt of jokes the world around, but it is vastly misunderstood, and few who try it don't end up hooked for life.
