I'll tell you who's got their pumpkins yet — my neighbor and I. It's too early to carve them (they rot within a week after they're carved), but I drew faces on them with a marker. I'll carve the reverse sides as we get close to the 31st.

Not yet, but my local food market has them all out on display, looking all lovely and orange and pumpkin-y :D

I'm going pumpkin shopping early next week, and I think as I'm getting quite a few, I will be taking my other half with me to help me lug them home. It's only round the corner from my flat, but still ;)

Nope, haven't gotten that far yet. I would enjoy going to a pumpkin patch with hubby while he's home, but not sure if we'll have time, so I might have to go after he leaves for work again.

I haven't picked one up yet. I don't have a car and the thought of driving home with a large pumpkin on my scooter doesn't exactly thrill me. But a traditional pumpkin does bring a traditional value to the home. Especially when the candle burns the top. I can smell it now.

My family got ours yesterday!
We have 4 carving pumpkins, two medium white pumpins, a nice big green gourd, and lots of mini pumpkins and gourds that we've scattered around the house.

i went to the pumpkin patch last week and picked up 3 medium sized pumpkins (couldn't get any bigger coz the hubby wasn't there with us to carry them). i got a wicked sunburn that day also, damn 90 degree weather. thank god it's nice and cool now. we were gonna carve them this weekend, but it's been a bad weekend. hopefully next week we'll get to hack into them

I haven't decided what to carve it as. But I want to try using a skinning technique, instead of the usual carve holes and stuff. I might need to buy some wood carving tools to pull it off though.

Anyone ever tried this technique before? I'm thinking a small razor knife or exacto, and peeling the skin, to let the candle light through the rind. I might have to scrape the interior of the rind pretty thin. But I don't know how thin.

Since I never done it this way before, any tips, trick or links would be appreciated.
