Bluebeard

Does anyone know the story about Bluebeard? And, I'm not talking about a pirate named Bluedbeard! 
I believe that man was called "Bluebeard" and he was lived in France, I think... He killed at least 5 women and hid the bodies inside the wall in his own mansion.
I don't know if this story is true or fake because I'm trying to find out. And, yes I saw the movie called "Bluebeard" and I think it was made in 1973.
