halloween capitial of the world they say wikipedia it and read into it they had the first halloween parade in 1920. I want to move there. Anyone been there or move there?

I have yet to make the pilgrimage to Anoka, Minnesota, but I did see a special on the travel channel last year and they were one of the segments. Looks like a lot of fun.

A Halloween festival! Well someday I'd love to go...when I'm in a better financial situation.
I don't know necessarily if I want to live there, but the events sound like fun, I'd like to check it out. I think if we did have Halloween every day, it would spoil the spirit, kind of like the movie Christmas every day or Ground hog day and there would be nothing to look forward to.
Still, it'd be great to meet other people who enjoy Halloween.
I wonder if they'll have venders. Closest thing we have to a Halloween festival is the fall foliage festival.
Thanks for letting the forum know about this, It'll definitely be on my places to visit. I'll have to get a good costume, what might be fun is wearing a different costume for each event.

There are actually a lot of places I would like to visit for Halloween, but every year I'm at home with the yardhaunt. When the girls are older, maybe I'll sneak away to Vegas with the wife to see their Halloween set up. I hear it's amazing.

I'd also like to go to Salem, MA some year around the end of October, just to see it.

Disneyland or world is the place to go, the way they redo the haunted mansion and everything else all decorated, then they turn down the light s and it really cool.

Maybe I'll take a Halloween off and take the family down to California the last week of October. Maybe 2011 or 2012. I doubt there's going to be a lot of action on a Monday or Wednesday Halloween.

Isn't there a big pumkin festival some where around Halloween? I thought I remembered reading something last year. They carve thousands of pumkins and light them, the whole town shuts down and its just this really wild week long celebration. It's like the Mardi Gras of Halloween. Anyone hear of that festival???

Yes, Anoka is the Halloween Capitol of the World. The parade will start at approx. 1 PM today and last over 2 hours. It is one of the biggest parades in Minnesota, if not the biggest. We have in the past, had special grand marshals', including a couple from the old Dating Game show. They were flown in to Mpls/St. Paul airport, then a helicopter ride which landed in the Anoka football field. I'm not sure what their reactions were tho. LOL

The parade, normally, has bands from all over the state and, on occasion, from out-of-state. There are a lot of floats from businesses, private groups (4H, Boy Scouts, etc) to private parties. Anoka elementary schools kids have a parade the day before and the main parade will have any school groups that wish to attend.

It travels about 2 miles with thousands of people on the sidewalks. Considering that Anoka's population is less than 20,000, it's quite a sight.

sounds like fun!! i'd like to visit this place some time.. the first trip i have in mind for now is salem
