Happy 40th Birthday Disney's Haunted Mansion

Post by iHaunt » Sun Aug 09, 2009 4:00 pm

Forty years ago, that mysterious and foreboding house that sat at the end of Disneyland's New Orleans Square finally opened to the public as The Haunted Mansion. The outside facade of the New Orleans manor was completed in 1963, leaving park guests to speculate and become excited for what would surprise them inside. However, Walt Disney and his team of Imagineers were distracted by their projects for the 1964 - 1965 New York World's Fair (think It's a Small World). Shortly afterward, Walt Disney passed away of Lung Cancer.

I've been to the Haunted Mansion in Disney World in Florida, and it's to this very day my favorite Disney attraction. The last time I was at Disney, was in October of 05. IT was pretty neat.

Oh, yeah! I was there at Disney World in Orlando long, long time ago when I was kid and I had great times over there! Wish I would go visit there again some of these days. :D

I'm not sure when, but the house in Orlando was redone lately. I went in 03 then again 2 months ago and it was changed between those visits. It's always been a favorite attraction but they changed a couple of the rooms. How great would it be to work at that attraction and yell at everyone all day?
"Hurry up and get on the ride! Or you just might lose your head!" lol!
I've met The Great Pumpkin.

I remember the very first time I went on the Haunted Mansion at Disneyworld in Fla. I was about 14. I remember looking at that portrait over the fire place, and how it aged to bones right before our eyes. That was really creepy.

I also remember seeing the flick in the theatres. That was a great film, and I am also going to add it to my collection.

Most if not all Disney productions are geared towards kids. That doesn't mean it can't be entertaining for adults, too. After all, I do enjoy going to Disneyworld. I had a lot of fun there back in October of 06.

My family allways plans the Disney trips for late Fall or Early Winter, because it's less crowded so I probably won't get to go again until after I retire.

I posted this elsewhere but this looks like the place to do it again.

If you click on the track listings toward the bottom of this site you can listen to or download the tracks from the record that was supposed to be released the year that the Haunted Mansion was supposed to open, but didn't because if construction delays.

Haunted Mansion in Florida is by far my favorite ride I have ever been on. Last time i went a few years ago I beleive I rode it 3 or 4 times because there was no wait at all which was really nice. My favorite part would have to be when the cart turns towards the mirrors in that one room and you can see a ghost in the mirror riding in your cart. I love disney world, what a great place.

i really like the eddie murphy haunted mansion movie  and it's a great movie to include in a halloween horrorthon for comic relief pruposes  watching intense horror movies back-to-back can be an emotional roller coaster ride of negativity  and i think it's important to balance that with sitcom halloween specials, cartoons, and horror-comedy and other light-hearted horror-themed movies like this for the sake of maintaining one's sanity :D other good movies for this purpose are young frankenstein, monstersquad, transylvania 6-5000, love at first bite, etc... know what i mean :?: this is often why tv stations had horror hosts :o
