The Aftermath

Post by writerpatrick » Sat Oct 31, 2009 11:24 pm

We didn't get as many TOTers as previous years. It seems that kids just weren't going out for TOT. What disappoints me most is having put hours of work into a pumpkin that hardly anyone saw. One of the biggest problems was the weather. For the previous two days we had rain, which made it difficult to decorate outside. Then today the wind (even though I love wind) was so strong that it kept blowing decorations around. So it was hard to really set anything up, and I didn't notice a lot of people decorating this year.

It's hard to say how many people gave out candy. Our street is usually fairly good. But if enough people on the street don't bother, then TOTers don't bother coming around. Although it might have been the flu scare that kept people away.

The worst part is that it makes it harder to want to decorate next year. If I do anything elaborate I want it to be seen.

Maybe it's just a bit of post-seasonal depression.

One condolence: Monday Nov. 2nd is a full moon.

I heard the news this evening, and they were talking about the likelihood of picking H1N1 up off of candy that people give out for TOTS. I thought that it was so sad.
Let us enjoy Halloween!

Didn't stop them from coming to my house. I could have been coughing up a lung, and they'd still be lined up! They'd think I was part of the act!

I was thinking swine flu this year, though. Normally I let kids pick what they like, but this year I asked, or just handed it out. I didn't want a bunch of grubby hands rooting around in a bowl and passing on their pestilence to everyone who came after.

Sorry you didn't get the turnout you hoped for, WP, but don't let that keep you from decorating next year! If you give up because of one bad year, less people will get in the spirit next year. And then you'll single handedly be responsible for the death of Halloween. You don't want that on your shoulders, do you?

.
Most of my plans for the weekend collapsed too. Mostly thanks to an unforeseen job
that has to be completed on Monday. I could've worked tomorrow instead of today but
for what I paid for my Chargers tickets... ain't gonna happen. I'm even gonna skip the
tailgating tomorrow morning because I'm just too pooped to party... any more.

Intended to go to the Whaley House to finish off the night tonight but when I got there
the line was mongo huge. Instead I went across the street and had a couple of beers. I
did see one chick that came out of the house in a panic, she was saying she felt a hand
on her shoulder and no one was near her.

Another thing I noticed, while I was at my friends' house during trick or treating, fully ¼
of the kids had no costume on at all. I saw more adults in costume walking down the
street while I was sitting on the patio at the bar than I saw kids in costume tonight. I
definitely think Halloween is becoming an adult holiday again.

What am I doing now?

I'm watching Underwold: Evolution on the Spanish channel and drinking a Bloody Mary...
of course. Hey... Kate Beckinsale in skin tight leather is just as hot in any language. No?

Really!! They've just got to put the fear in people to keep up the pretense of...danger, plague, illegal aliens, whateva. Always the fear. They need to give it a rest.

Some people just won't stop watching the news. They are addicted. I mean it's not natural for a human being to hear about every sad and scary thing that happened or can happen every morning and evening. Turn it off people.

That's actually why I won't watch reality shows and crime dramas. I get enough reality from
watching and reading the news. Give me some good old fashioned Sci-Fi or fantasy any day.

Might as well. We make our own world with what we think and do in our actual lives. If your filling up on all fear all the time your not living. Life is short. If you don't look around once in a while you just might miss it.

Yes! I have better things to do than cower in a corner, waiting for the next bad thing to happen to me!

I do keep my head out of the news as often as humanly possible.
I know enough to get by, I'm happier not hearing everything.
I heard that in passing.

Life is too short.

this is pretty much the way it was at my house too, not as many as I would have liked, set up wasnt as good as I would have liked for the same reasons as you, and it almost felt that the decorating and tons of money I spend wasnt worth it, but to be honest, I enjoy the planning and setting up most and I got to do that, not as well as I would have liked because I couldnt take my time over a few days to get it right but it was still fun.

I never get TOTers as I live in a creepy remote valley and it's a 10 minute walk to the front door, if you can make it through the dark and around the inky black pond.

The ironic part being it's a perfect spot for a spooky Halloween.

That sounds like a nice place to live, Andy.
