Halloween Bakeries

Post by Jack Skellington » Fri Aug 26, 2011 5:04 am

Towards the end of next month my local supermarket will start selling some tasty treats. I love their mini doughnuts topped with orange icing & chocolate sprinkles. They also sell gingerbread biscuits in the shape of ghosts, skeletons, frankestein's monster & vampires! They're delicious!
Cadbury also change the packaging on their chocolate mini roles with a strawberry filling to a halloween style packaging. For some reason they taste much better at halloween! The Jaffa Cake bars packaging is also changed & again they taste better! :D

What halloween bakeries do you all enjoy?

I'm thinking about baking a cake this year with a cemetery on top. I've seen pictures on the internet of ones & they look good. I think i'll give it a go! :D

Oooh, sounds like the English are catching the Halloween spirit! When the candy companies start making special packaging for that season, that's a good sign.

I can't think of any particular bakeries in my neck of the woods. The American South is not particularly known for stand-alone bakeries, though every grocery store has one. Our local Kroger's had cupcakes made up for the Harry Potter premiere back in July, that sort of thing. They will be selling something Halloweenish when the time comes.

It amuses me that they sell red, white and blue star-shaped cookies around the Fourth of July, then red & green star-shaped cookies at Christmas. I know they are using the same cookie cutters for both. They just change the color of the icing or sugar-sprinkles. And I swear the Rudolph cookies are shaped a whole lot like the Easter bunny cookies. Those antlers and those ears. . . .

Do you all have the pre-made cookie dough with seasonal shapes inside them? For instance, at Halloween, you can buy a roll of cookie dough (made by IDK, maybe Pillsbury?) that has an orange center shaped like a pumpkin. Or maybe it is a tray of pre-made cookies (raw though, needing to be baked) that has a holiday shape inside, where the dough is a different color, like a ghost or a pumpkin or a cat. Those are handy for after-school snacks in October.

I havn't seen any pre-made cookie dough over here, but then again I havn't been looking for it. It could be sold.

I have seen pre-made cookies, but only at Christmas.

Here in the U S we have Hostess snacks. That includes Suzie Qs, Twinkies, Snow Balls, Cup Cakes, Fruit Pies and in later years Zingers. During various seasons, Hostess does a lot of decorating of their cake products. During the Hallwoeen season, they die their Snow Balls Orange. They also die them Green for Christmas, Red for Valentines Day and pink or purple for Easter. They also have green snow balls for St. Patricks Day.

Also, many of our supermarkets also have bakeries who do special Halloween or other holiday cookies and other deserts.

Yeah! I've seen some of Halloween cookies and ginger bread biscuits at the grocery store before, but they're not making anymore. :? That's why I have to buy Halloween cookie dough and cakes. ;)

I don't know about bakeries, but I do enjoy all the Halloween themed candy that is sold in stores this time of year. (Well, towards the end of next month.) I also found a new recipe last year that my family decided should be a Halloween tradition. I make pumpkin cupcakes (pumpkin pie-like batter) with a cream cheese icing. They are so good!

I know what you mean about the candy! :D I'm not a sweet toothed person normally unlike my wife. However, I go crazy at halloween! :D

Those cupcakes sound quite tasty! :D

Oh, yum, pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese icing sound delicious! Carrot cake is maybe my favorite kind of cake, and it has the cream cheese icing, too. I also love sweet potato pie, and pumpkin pie, of course.

I also love caramel apples (often I just slice an apple and eat it with caramel dip). I don't care overly for candy apples--the ones with the bright red coating--but I do love the caramel apples. And of course I love baked apples, too. There have been Halloweens when I handed out apples and caramels. The kids seemed to love that, because it was different.

One of my favorite Halloween treats is roasted pumpkin seeds. I was in my thirties before I had ever eaten them, but now I cannot imagine a Halloween without them.

My sister in-law can bake up a pretty mean batch of chocolate chip cookies, and some times during the Halloween season, she will put orange food coloring in the dough, and then use chocolate chipes and Reesses Pieces so they would have a Halloween look to them.

I love that idea from your sister in law's cookies! Does she still have a recipe?

I think they're okay.
