Re: Which Haunted attraction(s), you plan to visit, this yea
We always have lots of choices around here re Halloween activities. Our main limitations are time & money. I am leaning, this year, toward attending the downtown story-telling tour in the historic district. In the past it has been done by the Borotellers, a year-round story-telling society, but this year I think it's being done by people called Shadow Chasers or Shadow Hunters--ghost hunter types, I think.
We may also attend a corn maze--at least, some of us may. There are several in the area, but the one we are most likely to go to is owned by friends.
I'd love to attend Dead Woods, a haunted woods attraction near Lebanon (another, nearby town), but it is a little expensive for us this year.
We have done the Parks & Rec Halloween Carnival with Haunted Hayride for many years, but may skip it this year. My kids are getting older and have done it so often that it may make more sense to invest our time & money elsewhere.

Went to a few haunted houses here in Houston this past weekend, and hoping to visit more this month, but my sister's birthday is Saturday and next weekend I may have to go out of town for a day or two... good thing about that though is that it will be a bit more up North, so hoping to go apple picking if I can.
October always winds up to be so busy that I get nervous.

I understand this POV. Halloween month is approaching Christmas for # of seasonal activities.whatsername90 wrote:

Toward the end of the month, we also have a wedding anniversary (24th) & my husband's birthday (29th).

Went to the Haunted Hotel last weekend, thinking about going to the Haunted Trail this weekend but not sure if I want to spend the money. Those things really don't do anything for me. The trick is finding the right people to go with, preferably someone who is easily scared, so you can laugh at them.
I really really want to go see Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein at the theater next Wednesday but am having a hard time finding anyone to go with me. Seems people I know aren't interested in seeing some old black & white movies on the big screen. Weirdos! We are going to go see JC's Halloween though.

Just returned from the Creepy Hollow Hayride/Scare Forest near Richmond, VA. We couldn't have picked a better night to go. The sky was clear, showcasing the stars and crescent moon. There was a certainly a chill in the air, but nothing a cup of hot cider couldn't fix. Being a Sunday night, the crowds were very manageable as well.
As for the haunts themselves, I was pretty impressed. The hayride last about 20 minutes, which is pretty substantial for this sort of thing, in my experience. It meanders through various scenes complete with your standard haunt actors, etc. They actually jumped up on a few times to torment patrons, which was a fun twist.
The scare forest was a standard trail through dark woods, complete with actors, mini scenes, and various mazes, etc along the way.
If any of you are in central or SE Virginia, I'd definitely check it out.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I was feeling quite weak tonight as I caved and indulged in a generous helping of fried Oreos and Reese's cups. To say these morsels were rich would be the understatement of our collective lifetimes. In the moment, they were fantastic, but now, 2.5 hours removed, I'm feeling as guilty as I am sick...
They were also serving up, as I mentioned, hot cider, cocoa, smores, hot dogs, etc. The ironic thing is my dinner consisted of a spinach salad and grilled salmon. At least something I consumed today was healthy...

I've heard of it Nevermore, but I'm not intrigued. I'm not afraid of the dark and not afraid of going through it alone. I wasn't comfortable with, (PHYSICAL CONTACT –SEXUAL and VIOLENT SITUATIONS) clause. After reading reviews, of people being touched in their private parts, I wasn't interested.NeverMore wrote:
Ramaries69, have you been to the Blackout Haunted House? Meredith over at i09 is saying it's the scariest haunted house ever. I've seen others mention that also. At $50 for entry, it better be! Sounds like an intense experience anyway. Located in NYC for anyone who's wondering.
I do plan, however to visit two different haunts this Sat., in Long Island.

Well, I was hoping to do a ghost tour of Oaklands Mansion (premiere antebellum home in this town, heart of the historic district here) and adjacent cemetery on Saturday night. However, my daughter has been invited to a corn maze just outside of town that same evening, and of course I want her to go with her friends. But I will have to drive her, so I don't know if there will be time for me to do both. I'll try.
This weekend, Friday & Saturday, are the wind-up of most local Halloween attractions, since Halloween falls in mid-week. However, our family is committed to attending a big high school football game this Friday (Battle of the Boro, a biggie every year), so I don't have Friday night free.
So much to do, so little time!
