Re: Happy 40th Birthday Disney's Haunted Mansion
I remember going on the Haunted Mansion ride, it was really fun and somewhat scary. I also liked the movie and the song "Grim Grinning Ghosts". I went on that ride the first time I went to Disneyland(I have only been there twice, once with my teacher and the second was at Grad Nite).

Is it the one where you go inside that creepy elevator? I went to Disneyland with my brother when I was 5 and I remember going there like it was yesterday because I was so scared! (I especially freaked out when I went on the ride where they sing "It's a Small World"). I saw Captain Eo with MJ and it was really scary, I watched it for the first time in 27 years and thought it was pretty cool, not scary at all but then again I was 5, it would be scary to anyone that age. I want to take my kids there but my son is only 3 and want to wait till he's a little older so he won't be scared like I was.

I hate to be a "party pooper," but I COLDN'T STAND "It's a Small World." That song drove me absolutely batts. And it keeps repeating over and over again. I really loved Disney, but that one particular ride, and the Teekie Birds were also the down side of it all.
As for that creepy elevator, you are quite right. The Haunted Mansion has an art gallery where you are actualy on a platform that moves down, but it's designed to creat an optical illusion that the room is stretching, and when you look at the pictures on the wall, you see the various ways that the people in the portraits died.
It was truely awesome.
