Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

LOL I don't want to put my real name on the web, either, but celebrating Halloween on any day other than the 31rst is just all kinds of wrong. I didn't even like it when they changed Washington & Lincoln's birthdays to Presidents' Day. I never even got off school for those two birthdays, but I always knew when they were. I doubt my own kids do. To them, Presidents' Day is just a day off school when a bunch of stores have sales.

Where I live, Trick-or-Treat is always on the 31st, even if it's a school night. The one exception is when Halloween falls on a Sunday. Usually they will move TOT to Saturday night then. But the last time that happened, TPTB decided not to name a day, to let the people who celebrate decide it. So of course we TOT'd both nights! In two or three widely separated neighborhoods. That was a Halloween to remember, for sure.

Now, our local Dept. of Parks and Recreation does do a Halloween bash on the weekend nearest, and this year, they are doing it this weekend, because they know the kids are going to prefer TOTing in the neighborhoods next weekend. I took two of my kids last night for our annual hay ride down Old Scream Road. So much fun!

That hayride does sound good! I'll be going on one on Sunday, weather permitting.

Ok ok, but you'll have my vote in the spirit of the thing. ;)

Hayrides are itchy. Now if they could slap a La-Z-Boy rocker recliner on the back of the wagon next to the bales of hay, I'm down with it.

Adrian, you don't remember Teri Garr from Close Encounters of the Third Kind?
I saw that just the other day, and it's still good.
