A general package should be around 20 bucks but you should look into it.. I tell you what though, I don't know how much I'd want to rely on this but until you can afford it try, the poor mans copyright. Mail information about your characters along with pictures of them to yourself. The federal postage date is legal evidence. If your package is dated before someone Else's copyright of your characters, you have a case. But NEVER open the package after you mailed it to yourself or its tampered.
