i do.. my grand father drinks scotch.. i'm a whiskey man...
if i wanted to try a good scotch (never had it) what scotch would you recommend and why?

I'd recommend Lagavulin. It's a delicious, smokey, peaty whisky that isn't as peppery as Talisker, nor as medicinal as Laphroaig, nor as salty as Oban. It has much more depth of flavor then Glenlivet.
