The names of the characters need some work, too. "Big Biff" sounds a bit corny, and was something I just threw out there for the sake of discussion. Also, since Irish gangsters were as big in those days as the Al Capone gang, but lesser known, I thought I would base this on an Irish "North Side" gangster, and for my innocent bystander, I thought I would go with a little girl, of a regular working class family of that time period. I'm wide open on my 1978 married couple and the name of the town where my story takes place.

It's interesting that you already know something about the Irish mafia of the period.

I credit that knowledge to two things. My love of documentary films about that era, and my father. Old dad lived and grew up in Al Capone's Chicago, in the Canary Ville neighborhood. He knew of a lot of guys who were involved with the Al Capone gang. He also had neighbors who were involved with O'Bannon's organization as well. My father hated those guys, too. He called them 'hoodlums.'

I agree. I grew up in 1970s Chicago. 111th and Drake to be exact, and we had our share of drug pushers and people who would buy alcohol for underaged persons....for a price. They were also the WORST BULLIES I ever knew. Hoodlums in every sense of the word!
